JUPITER DREAMS: ants

ALWAYS BY TAMIR WEAVER

a dream dictated by memory to Najee AR Fareed

Origin: Essex, Maryland. 2005.

I am deathly afraid of bugs. Terrified actually. I have always been scared of bugs. I don’t remember a lot of things, but I never fail to remember that. Bugs are a fear atop a list of trickling fears and despite their trivial size, they loom in my mind. Tonight, I arose from bed and I saw an ant scurrying across my white window sill, then I saw two scuttling down the baseboard. Three, four, five, six… ants began to pour into my room in waves. I went to tell my mother about the ants and they swarmed me. The ants crawled their way over and under my skin until they completely covered me. I tried to scream but they filled my bedroom until my muffled screams could barely escape my throat. I moved to leave the room but the ants stopped me where I stood. Frozen with fear, I waited to be consumed. But they never bit me. Not once.
